Are You Deprived of Fresh Air? These Fall Activities May Be the Answer!

With summer winding down and the fall season quickly creeping up on us, many people find themselves anxiously awaiting cooler temperatures, autumn colors and especially all of the fall activities that can be done without having to deal with pesky mosquitoes. In anticipation of the anxiously-awaited fall season, we’ve put together some of our favorite fall activities that everyone should set some time aside for this year.

Pumpkin and Apple Picking

Perhaps the activity most associated with fall pertains to picking favorite seasonal fruits: pumpkins and apples! Visiting your favorite pumpkin patch or apple orchard is great for family bonding whilst enjoying the outdoors. Pumpkins also provide for fun-at-home activities the whole family can enjoy, including pumpkin carving and roasting seeds (yum!).

Camping

Many people reserve camping times for the summer months when the weather is warm and bundling up is of no concern. Our advice: don’t let cooler temps prevent you from enjoying the outdoors! In fact, fall is ideal for camping because there are fewer mosquitoes and other insects to worry about during these months. Packing a few extra layers may be worth it in order to come home free of insect bites!

Hiking and Mountain Biking

Hiking and mountain biking are extremely popular in the summer; mosquitoes would tend to agree. The woods and areas containing standing water are popular mosquito hangouts, especially when warm and humid conditions are prevalent. Hiking or mountain biking instead during the fall could be more beneficial and enjoyable. With cooler temperatures, you’re less likely to sweat and more likely to breathe easier.  As a bonus, mosquitoes won’t be as attracted to you because your body will be releasing fewer chemicals. The cooler air will also make it easier to endure longer distances by either foot or bike, which is beneficial to those hiking and riding for exercise. If you’re hiking or biking for leisure, don’t forget to take your camera and snap some shots of the beautiful scenery of autumn.

Stay Protected From Mosquitoes During Fall Activities

While cooler temperatures typically mean fewer mosquitoes, you should still protect yourself when you’re outdoors this fall.  This is especially true if you reside in warmer climates where temperatures rarely dip below 50 degrees, the number where mosquitoes shut down for the winter. Regardless of what fall activities you’ll be taking part in, don’t let lingering mosquitoes, biting flies, deer ticks, chiggers, gnats and fleas prevent you from enjoying your time in the great outdoors.
